Chandramukhi dasi.
2: Discussion.
Actual business began at 10.50 am. Mahaprabhu das was elected to chair the meeting by
almost everyone present. A minor disagreement by the previously elected Chairperson,
Mathuranatha das concerning the legality of electing a chairperson whilst an elected
chairperson was present ensued. However the overwhelming majority of devotees present
preferred Mahaprabhu das to chair the meeting and thus he did.
Mahaprabhu suggested that we have all been through some difficult situations during the past
year and requested that we all act like vaisnavas with proper decorum. Applause ensued.
Chairperson Mahaprabhu das then commenced calling for nominations for three ordinary members
to be non-office holding members of the management committee.
Mathuranatha das prabhu contended that this was against our constitution as there were seven
vacancies on the management committee and as there were seven nominations that these
vacancies should be filled by the seven nominated devotees.
This is not strictly correct as we still had to consider any nominations to be made on the
day of the meeting. This was pointed out to Mathuranatha das who failed to recognise the
validity of the point. The fact that Ahkileswari devi dasi later declined her nomination (as
secretary) further illustrated the need for elections to ensue.
Mathuranatha das had made the statement that he was content to be an ordinary member on the
committee and when asked by the chairperson Mahaprabhu das if he would like to be nominated
as an ordinary member of the management committee he declined to answer.
Mathuranatha das still strongly complaining that proper procedure was not being followed
then left the meeting.
Lilasuka das also left the meeting room but was still present on the premises for the
duration of the meeting.
3: Election of ordinary devotee management committee members.
